Nelda Joy Riherd Calhoun, 87 of Stephenville, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 14, 2022.
Graveside services for Joy will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 17th at Lower Green’s Creek Cemetery with Mark and Melissa Castleberry and Ed Dittfurth officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, July 16th 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Stephenville Funeral Home.
Joy was born on December 30, 1934, in Rotan, Texas to the late Dewitt Jackson and Ethel Cordelia Wells Riherd. She married Robert F. Pepper on June 11, 1961, in Dublin. Robert preceded her in death on April 20, 1968. Her second marriage was to Ernest L. Boening on June 12, 1987, in Stephenville, and he also preceded her in death on April 6, 2003. Joy’s third marriage was to Plesant Melvin Calhoun on May 2, 2009, in Dublin, and he also preceded her in death on October 31, 2016. Joy taught elementary school at Santo and Palo Pinto ISDs and worked at the Dick Smith Library on the Tarleton Campus for seven years. She was a member of the Green’s Creek United Methodist Church, and lived most of her life in Erath County.
Joy is survived by her children, Bobbie and her husband Keith Nichols of Dublin, Steven and wife Kristy Pepper of Proctor, Ernest and wife Cheri Boening of Stephenville, Beth and husband Lannes Callison of DeLeon, and Melody and husband Rod Reed of Jourdanton, TX; grandchildren, Jennifer Nichols, Jonna Alvarado, Sara Holland, Emily Beoning, Nickie Pepper and husband Cord Biddy, Bradley Pepper, Lauren Martin, Grayson Martin, Laramie and wife Stephanie Callison, Morgan Reed, Matt May, and Amanda Mercer; nineteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.
