STEPHENVILLE — Three Tarleton State University staff members in the Texas Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education (TADOHE) recently facilitated an all-day training for the University of Houston-Clear Lake leadership team. The training focused on implicit bias.

Dr. Richard Walker was named UHCL President in May 2022 and immediately made diversity, equity and inclusion a priority. His team contacted Tarleton’s Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and International Programs, Dr. Sherri Benn, as an expert in the field.

Dr. Benn; Dr. Elizabeth Wallace, Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives; and Dr. Dana Fitzpatrick, Director of Institutional Inclusive Programs and External Community Engagement, were joined by TADOHE members Dr. Florencio Aranda III from TCU and Anthony Daniels from Prairie View A&M to conduct the training.

UHCL wants to have, by 2025, an inclusive culture that values diversity in its many forms. Dr. Benn, the content developer and lead facilitator of the Tarleton DEI training team, said she was very proud of its work with UHCL.

She said Tarleton and the DEI division are leading the way in supporting TADOHE’s mission of fostering inclusive excellence in higher education.
