Ralph Turner, 92, of Hico, TX passed away on Friday, July 22nd, 2022 at the Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth. Hester Pruitt Turner and Ralph Edward Turner welcomed Ralph to their family on February 27th, 1930 in Combes, TX. He was the fourth of their six children. At 14 years old, Ralph and his family moved to Hico and he graduated from Hico High School in 1949. Ralph served two years in the Marine Corp from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean Conflict. He began his time in the service in San Diego where he was named Rifle Range Expert Rifleman during boot camp. He served in South Korea for 13 months and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1953. He continued to served in the reserves for six years.

After his return from the service, Ralph married his high school sweetheart, LaVerne Parker on October 30th, 1953. Following their union, the couple moved to Graham where Ralph worked as an electrician apprentice. Six months later, they returned to Hico to go into the feed business with Hardy Parker, Ralph’s father-in-law. After several years of owning and operating Turner Feed Mill, Ralph transitioned to working for the US Postal Service full-time in January of 1983. As a rural route carrier, he fulfilled his love of serving others and was inducted into the prestigious One Million Mile Club and retired on January 25th, 2005 with 36 years of service. Ralph and LaVerne have two children, Jim (wife, Tammy) and Jean Ann (late husband, Roger). He has nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Ralph and LaVerne would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in October.

He loved the Lord and due to his faith was a lifelong member of the Hico Church of Christ. He served the Church with his whole heart, including as treasurer for several years. Ralph loved his family and enjoyed supporting his kids and grandkids in sports and activities, caring for his garden, raising cattle on the farm in Fairy, and going on family vacations. He also spent his time cheering for the Texas Rangers or enjoying a classic Hallmark movie on TV.

Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Hester Turner and his siblings: Florene, Pete, Dorothy, Charlotte, and Willis, his son-in-law, Roger Weaver, and daughter-in-law, Linda Fagan Turner. He is survived by his wife, LaVerne; his son, Jim and wife Tammy; his daughter, Jean Ann; his grandchildren: Adam, Aaron, Amy, Sarah, Jake, Morgan, Clayton, Malori and Charli; plus nine great grandchildren: Ethan, Zander, Kendyl, Gracyn, Everett, Knox, Jackson, Hudson and Maddux.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Harvest Hills Funeral Home on Monday, July 25th from 6:00-8:00pm. The memorial service will be on Tuesday, July 26th at 10:00am at Hico Church of Christ with a graveside service immediately following at the Hico Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hico Church of Christ, PO Box 236, Hico, Texas 76457 or a charity of your choice.
