James “Nolan” Chaffin

James “Nolan” Chaffin, born May 21, 1928, passed from this earth on July 28, 2022.
Nolan was a lifelong resident of Iredell, Texas. Upon graduation from Iredell ISD, he joined the United States Air Force and served our country as a Medic. In 1952, he returned home from the service to attend and graduate from Baylor University. In May of 1952, he married the love of his life, Eleanor Helm. From this marriage two children were born, Karen and Kent. Nolan was a member of the Iredell First United Church, and served for many years on the Iredell ISD Board. He retired early from the oil industry to return to farming, which he loved. While Nolan loved all of his family, he dearly loved his grandsons, Jamey and Roy. He also had a special love for his great grandson, Jack! Nolan will truly be missed.

Nolan was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Chaffin; by his parents: father, William “Lee” Chaffin, mother, Irene Sparks Chaffin, and step-mother, Kate Chaffin; and by his brother, Alivin Loyd “Buddy” Chaffin.

Surviving Nolan are a daughter, B “Karen” Chaffin of Benbrook; son, Kent Chaffin and wife Linda of Iredell; grandsons, Jamey V. Chaffin of Iredell, and Roy Nolan Chaffin of Euless; great-grandson, Jack Elliott Chaffin of San Antonio, and Jack’s mother, Annette Parido. Also surviving Nolan are his sisters, Wilma Loader of Lampasas, and Vonnie “Tink” Master of Belton. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation 1:30 – 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Iredell, Texas, immediately followed by a funeral service at 2:30 pm at the church, with burial to follow at Mitchell Cemetery.
