Late goal gives Texans a draw in first WAC match against Abilene Christian

STEPHENVILLE – Macy Hellwig found the bottom corner of the goal in the 83rd minute to give the Tarleton women’s soccer team a 1-1 draw Sunday against Abilene Christian at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.

Hellwig’s goal came from a perfect assist by Kike Baurmann. The goal was Hellwig’s first career goal, and Baurmann notched her team-leading fifth assist. Both Tarleton and ACU move to 4-2-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the WAC.

ACU started the scoring, netting a goal in the sixth minute setting the table for Hellwig’s late match-tying goal.

The Texans outshot the Wildcats 8-6 and held a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Next up, Tarleton stays at home with another WAC match on Greek Day against Utah Tech on Friday at 6 p.m.
