On Friday, the students at Gilbert Intermediate School of Stephenville, were treated to a visit from several retired military veterans and one active duty soldier. The military gentlemen were there to educate the children as well as to celebrate POW MIA Recognition Day, Constitution Day, Citizenship Day, and American Legion Post 240 which is located here in Stephenville. The retirees (and the active duty soldier) shared some of their military experiences with the children and held a question and answer time as well. The men also showed the children the proper way to fold an American flag and taught them what the colors, the stars, and the stripes on the flag represent. The 13 stripes represent the original 13 colonies and the 50 stars represent the 50 states that make up the United States of America. The red symbolizes hardiness and valor, the white symbolizes purity, and the blue represents perseverance and justice.
