STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton volleyball earned its first two conference wins this past week, and freshman right side Breanna McDonough made her presence felt in both matches.

McDonough’s play was recognized as she was named the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday afternoon, the league announced.

To kick the week off at Utah Tech she posted 11 kills on .500 hitting, also adding five digs and two blocks as the Texans defeated Utah Tech 3-1 for their first WAC win of the season.

That was followed up by a career performance at Southern Utah. McDonough landed 14 kills, a career-high, on.357 hitting to pair with four digs and two solo blocks. Tarleton took the match 3-2 in its first five set match of the season.

On the season, the freshman has played in 71 of 72 possible sets. She has double-digit kills in six different matches and is second on the team with 166 kills.

This is the first weekly award for McDonough in her young career and it is Tarleton’s third as a team. Ailie Hair picked up back-to-back Freshman of the Week awards in the first two weeks of the season for the Texans.

Also announced Monday, Stephen F. Austin’s Ariana Pagan and Isabella Ortiz were named the WAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively.

The Texans are 10-10 overall and 2-4 in WAC play. They host three matches in Wisdom Gym this week, starting off with a non-conference bout with Texas A&M-Commerce on Tuesday at 6 p.m. that will be streamed on ESPN+.
