Stephenville Honeybees take to the court Tuesday

The Stephenville HS Honeybees (22-2) dominated Pflugerville Connally’s Lady Cougars (5-13) on Saturday, 54-8, and went 4-0 in tournament play over the weekend, beatingHarvest Christian – Edinburg (22-6), Boswell (8-6) and Lovelady (9-13), in addition to Pflugerville Connally.

The #9 ranked Honeybees (20-2) were in Fredericksburg to participate in the 10th Annual Battlin’ Billie Classic over the weekend and Day 1 went very well for the Bees. Stephenville first faced the Lovelady Lions and came out way ahead, 55-32. Mya Wilson lead the Bees in buckets, scoring 19, followed closely by Lillie Skiles – 9, Lucy Espinoza – 8, Kyla Ray – 8, Brinley Hall – 3, Marin Copeland – 2, Vanessa Gonzalez – 2, Chandler Glasgow – 2 and Audrey Brandon – 2.

In Game 2 of the Classic, the Bees faced TAPPS team Harvest Christian Academy-Edinburg (22-6) and were able to defeat the Lady Eagles, 47-31. Lillie Skiles lead the Honeybee scoring with 12, followed by Mya Wilson with 8, Lucy Espinoza – 7, Vanessa Gonzalez – 6, Caitlyn Skiles – 6, Brinley Hall – 6 and Kyla Ray – 2.

Day 2 was much like a repeat of Day 1, with the Bees dominating the Pflugerville Connally Lady Cougars, 54-8, in the first game of the day. Stephenville’s Kyla Ray lead the team with 12 points in the game, followed by Lillie Skiles with 11, Madi Rust with 8, Lucy Espinoza – 7, 

Mya Wilson – 5, Vanessa Gonzalez – 3, Iza Vandalsem – 3, Brinley Hall – 2, Audrey Brandon – 2 and Caitlyn Skiles – 1.

Stephenville faced off against the Boswell Pioneers for the final game of Day 2 in the Classic. This was a much closer game, with the Bees coming out ahead, 48-42. Mya Wilson lead the Bees in buckets with 15 total points, Lillie Skiles was next with 11, Lucy Espinoza – 7, Kyla Ray – 7, Brinley Hall – 5 and Vanessa Gonzalez – 3.

The Stephenville Honeybees went 4-0 in the Battlin’ Billie Classic, have moved up a place in the polls and are now ranked #8 by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and will host San Angelo Central (13-9) Tuesday, January 3, at 6:15 p.m. in their final non-district matchup of the season.
