Martha Elizabeth (Woods) Thompson of Weatherford, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 8, 2023. At 84 years of age, she joined Audie, her beloved husband of 66 years in their eternal home.

Services celebrating her life are planned for 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2023 at Grace Covenant Church in Weatherford, Texas, officiated by Pastor Joel Kindeberg. Visitation time will precede the service at 10:00 am at the church. Graveside for the family will follow at Perrin Memorial Garden Cemetery in Perrin, Texas. Arrangements are coordinated by Stephenville Funeral Home, Stephenville, Texas.

Martha was born in Perrin, Texas to Aaron Fred and Leva Mae (Heath) Woods on February 21, 1938. Martha was welcomed by her big sister Marion. Her childhood family would grow to include younger siblings Sandra and John.

Martha married her Perrin High School sweetheart, Audie Thompson, on July 28, 1956. After brief stints in West Texas and the DFW area and making their family complete with three daughters, Alinda, Jo and Sherri, they returned to Perrin.

In the early 1970’s an opportunity to purchase Luna Insurance Agency in Perrin presented itself. Audie and Martha built a new home where Martha ran the agency. As a well-respected business owner, she grew her customer base, earned the trust of many and built a business that allowed her the flexibility to spend time with her family.

During Martha’s lifetime she and Audie enjoyed following sporting events including their daughters, grandchildren, and TCU. She enjoyed family weekends at the lake and summer vacations in the mountains. She was always treasure hunting, whether on a jeep trail for a railroad spike, unique rock or forbidden wildflower; she was always on the hunt! Her treasure hunting also included her weekly trips to her favorite local thrift stores where they knew her by name! Martha was always a welcoming hostess; whether it be opening her home for Bible studies or laughter filled domino games. Audie and Martha’s Colorado home was the perfect travel destination for friends and family.

Martha was strong in her Christian faith and was a faithful member of Grace Covenant Church. She had a special compassion for the elderly. She found great joy delivering treats to her friends on her weekly visits to the nursing homes.

Her grandchildren called her ‘Dandy’. She was the Leader of the ‘Grandkid Gang’! She told the best stories and had an amazing imagination. Her sense of humor and spunk were contagious. All of her joy, wit, and fun-loving nature is being passed down to the next generation of 12 great-grandkids!

She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Audie, her parents, Aaron and Leva Mae Woods, her sister, Sandra Claybourn, and her brother, John Woods.

She is survived by her daughter, Alinda Keener and her family, Sherri-Jo and Dennis Stowell, Graham and Cora, Shalee and Austin Adkins, Avery, Hallie and Aiden; daughter, Jo Geer and her husband Greg Geer and their family, Colby and Ashley Geer, Casen, Rowen and Ford, Cameron and Lynley Geer, Tripp and Saylor; daughter, Sherri Montgomery and husband, Doug Montgomery and their family Carly and Tony Gravatt, John David and Rachel Montgomery, Lucy and Maggie.
