ARLINGTON – The Western Athletic Conference announced its weekly baseball awards Monday afternoon and Tarleton baseball first baseman Jack Wagner was named as the hitter of the week.
Wagner had a stellar week at the plate as he started in all four games Tarleton played in California, helping them to a 3-1 record on the week in the golden state as well as their first WAC series win of the season.
In the four games, Wagner was 8-14 (.571) with eight hits, seven RBI, seven runs scored, three home runs, three walks and two stolen bases. He posted a .667 on-base percentage and a 1.214 slugging percentage. Wagner reached base safely in all four of Tarleton’s games.
In Friday’s 12-6 win over California Baptist, Wagner was 5-5 at the plate as he hit two home runs and totaled four RBI and four runs scored.

Wagner, a University of Kansas transfer, leads the Texans with 10 home runs, 39 RBI, a .729 slugging percentage and 19 walks this season. He has started 30 of Tarleton’s 33 games.
The honor was Tarleton baseball’s first weekly award of the 2023 season.
Tarleton hosts four home games this week with a midweek game vs. Wiley College on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. before NM State travels to Stephenville this weekend for a three-game series.
