Alison Grace Pickering of Lavon, Texas, passed away on May 12, 2023, after experiencing a severe anaphylactic shock from ingesting peanuts that were not disclosed on the restaurant menu.
Alison was born on April 14, 2000, to Grover and Joy Pickering in Grapevine, Texas. She grew up in a home that loved the Lord and served him. During her school years, she was involved in Cheer, Volleyball, and High School Rodeo, and served during VBS and summer camps at The Heights Church. As a High School student, she participated in mission trips to Honduras. After Alison graduated from Wylie Preparatory Academy in 2019, she went on to study Agricultural Communications at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. In a sweet moment at the hospital, she received her Tarleton diploma and Alumni pin. Alison will always be a proud Tarleton Texan. Bleed Purple!
While attending Tarleton State University, she developed a love for working with children at her church, Timber Ridge. For 3 years, she faithfully served on the children’s ministry staff. A legacy that Alison leaves behind is the way that she loved people. She knew that she was loved by Jesus and that is the way she loved others. She looked out for her friends, co-workers, and everyone she met. Alison exemplified the love of Christ in the way she loved those around her.
As a college senior, she completed her internship at the TREAT Therapeutic Riding Center where students and adults with disabilities receive equine therapy through horseback riding. Alison was known to her students around the TREAT Riding Barn as “The Princess”. The TREAT program was the perfect combination of her love of horses and of those with special needs.
While in college, Alison enjoyed serving at her church, building relationships with her students at TREAT riding, being involved with her sorority, two-stepping with friends, game nights, and bingo nights. She was also a huge fan of the Purple Poo Spirit organization at Tarleton. Please Google Purple Poo for further explanation. Alison was a loving friend to many students, Tarleton staff, and the Stephenville community.
Alison was preceded in death by her grandfather Grover Quinten “PQ” Pickering. She is survived by her parents Grover and Joy Pickering, brother Daniel William Pickering, grandparents Karen Pickering and Bert and Brenda Duckett. She is also survived by Andy, Christy, Madeline, and Claire Redmond, Barrett, Lauren, Bryson, Lila, Hallie, Sutter, Noel, and Rowan Bostwick, and Travis, Keli, Nolan, and Wesley Strahm. Finally, she is survived by many great aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at The Heights Church Chapel in Richardson, Texas on Thursday, May 18 from 5-7 pm. Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, May 19 at The Heights Church Sanctuary at 1 pm.
