On Wednesday, July 19, 2023, Wiley Gene Cox passed away at the age of 82 at his home in Stephenville Texas.

Wiley was born in Stephenville on November 4, 1940, to Daniel and Lettie Cox. He was raised in the Stephenville area and attended Tarleton after high school.  Wiley married Sandra Lee Tomlinson on November 30, 1962. Wiley and Sandra raised their two children, Gregg and Lori, in Stephenville. 

Wiley served in the National Guard and worked for the US Post Office for 37 years. During his time with the post office, he served as postmaster in Cisco and Mineral Wells and was postmaster of the Stephenville Post Office when he retired in 2001. 

Wiley was an avid golfer for many years and Wiley and Sandra built a home on the course at Legends golf club. Following his retirement, Wiley played golf almost every day and spent countless hours searching for golf balls. Wiley and Sandra took many trips exploring the world with their friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with friends over morning coffee.

Wiley is survived by his wife, Sandra, his son Gregg Cox and Gregg’s wife Amy, his daughter Lori Campbell, and his grandchildren Keith Cox, Kayla Cox, and Katie Campbell. Wiley also has many friends, golfing buddies, and extended family in the area. 

Wiley was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Vieta Walker, Evelyn Gildner and Delma Mayfield.

Wiley is remembered by his family as a kind and intelligent man that cared deeply about his family and friends. He was proud of his kids and grandkids, and of his career with the postal service, although everyone agrees that his golf game was always a work in progress. Wiley was always ready to help others.

Funeral services for Wiley will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 23rd at Stephenville Funeral Home Chapel with Gary Williams officiating.  Burial will follow at West End Cemetery.  Visitation with the Cox family will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Saturday at Stephenville Funeral Home.
