Kenneth Loyd Word, 82, died on Saturday July 29, 2023 at his home in Iredell, Texas. His memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, August 3rd at 10:00am at the First United Methodist Church of Hico. He will be laid to rest at the Hico Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation will be held at Harvest Hills in Hico on Wednesday from 6-8pm.

Kenneth was born in Stephenville, Texas on January 4, 1941 to John Fred and Eula B. Word, their fourth child. He graduated from Iredell High School in 1959. He served in the United States Army for two years, 1963-1965, stationed in Germany for the final year. When he was discharged, he took employment at Texas Instruments, and part time at TexAir and Littles Texaco in Arlington, Texas. He moved his young family back home to Iredell in the early 1970’s and trained to become a master carpenter. He went to work for Comanche Peak in Glen Rose and remained there until his retirement reaching the position of Mechanical Maintenance Working Foreman. After his retirement, he returned to his professional love, carpentry, building and remodeling homes with his cousin.

In 1981, he married the love of his life, Sharon. Together they raised three daughters. They have been active members of the United Methodist Church of Hico since 1982. Kenneth was a proud member of both the Iredell and Hico Masonic Lodges, serving at one time as Worshipful Master and District Deputy. He was committed to the endeavors and traditions of the Lodge, especially to the annual Iredell Masonic Lodge’s Mountaintop Outdoor Degree and Barbeque. He was also a member of the Iredell chapter Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Kenneth was a dedicated husband, father, PaPa, son and friend. He loved to play games and was always up for a round of dominoes or cards with his family and friends. H had a passion for supporting the Dragons six man football team and is well known for his chant,” Hit ’em in the back field”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers J.B. Word and James David Word and his brother in law Tony (Skeeter) Linch and sister in laws Sue Word, Donna Word, and Bonnie Lowe. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon Word; daughters Pamela Skipper (Tony), Stefanie Darter, Sandy Fellers (jeff); sons Steve Smith (Dee Dee), Ron Smith (Marcia); grandchildren Cody Griffin (Erika), Alan Fellers (Jordan}, Austin Griffin (Vashti), Colleen Fellers, Natalie Fellers, Dillon Fellers (Greta), Macy Skipper, Mackenzie Skipper; four great grandchildren; sister Grace Ellen Linch; brother in law Fritz Lowe and numerous nieces and nephews.
