Lorena Justina Aguilar, 62, of Tepic, Nayarit Mexico passed away on July 28, 2023. She was born on September 5, 1960, and grew up with both a strong sense of identity and a tremendous work ethic. She was extremely proud of her family, her home, and her Mexican culture which she regularly shared with everyone who knew her. She was a wonderful mother, an educator, a perpetual student, and a joyful friend to many who met her along the path her life took.

After marrying Michael Thomas in Mexico. They traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, where they lived for 8 years. It was during this time Lorena learned to speak German fluently, making her tri-lingual, and allowing one more language which she could use to make friends and share her own culture. Michael and Lorena moved back to Stephenville, where they lived for 25 years and raised their three daughters Lorraine, Stephanie and Lya Thomas.

Lorena was very proud to be a Tarleton alumnus where she earned both her Bachelor’s degree (1992) and her Master’s degree (2003) both in Business Administration and Marketing. She was an entrepreneur who managed multiple rental properties, a small business, and helped countless others create business plans and execute ideas. Additionally, she taught Spanish classes privately in her home to numerous families, and outside of her home to offices, clinics, and professional business groups.

She was a loyal and forceful patriot for the United States and one of her proudest achievements was gaining her dual citizenship. Her love for Texas was immense and she toured visiting family and friends from all over the globe to places like the Dublin Dr. Pepper Plant, Mary’s Café, Underwoods BBQ, the Fort Worth Stockyards, and numerous Texas State Parks proudly showing off her home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfonso and Justina Aguilar, and two brothers, Jorge and Ramon.

She is survived by her daughters Lorraine Thomas Crutcher (husband Jeremy Crutcher) of Mineral Wells, Texas; Stephanie Thomas of Round Rock, Texas; Lya Thomas King (husband Andrew King) of Big Bear, California. Grandchildren Teagan DeSpain and Kyle McKee of Round Rock, Texas, along with countless family members in her home state of Nayarit, Mexico.

A memorial service to honor Lorena’s beautiful life will be held on October 28, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the Grubb’s Welcome Center, located at 1779 N Graham Street in Stephenville. The family kindly requests that attendees wear bright colors or tropical prints to celebrate Lorena’s vibrant spirit and zest for life.
