STEPHENVILLE — In an effort to prioritize the well-being and safety of college students, Erath Engaged is gearing up to host a Virtual Student Health Summit. This event will take place on July 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. and will be an excellent opportunity for college students to gain insights and identify resources related to college health.

“The pandemic disrupted many aspects of their lives”, said Dr. Subi Gandhi – Associate Professor of Public Health and co-lead of project Erath Engaged. “Our college students need support and encouragement while they are learning and developing skills in college. Therefore, fostering an environment that nurtures resilience and empowers them to overcome obstacles is key as many are preparing to return on campus in the fall.

“In this shared endeavor, we invite all stakeholders – educators, parents, community members, and students themselves – to actively participate in shaping a college experience that equips our young minds with the tools they need to succeed academically, emotionally, and professionally.”

As the communities are gradually emerging from the shadow of the pandemic, college students are also restoring their normalcy with academic and daily lives. Acknowledging the significance of this transitional period, Erath Engaged is taking proactive measures to ensure that student health remains at the forefront.

Dr. Jennifer T . Edwards, Professor of Communication Studies and co-lead of project Erath Engaged stated, “In my experience, our students are different from generations of students who attended Tarleton in past years. Many of them have full course schedules, work one or two part-time jobs, are part of student organizations, and are helping their families at the same time. It is important for our students to maintain a focus on mental and physical health in order to thrive in all areas of their lives.”

Registration for the Virtual Student Health Summit is now open, and students from all campuses (rural/urban) are encouraged not to miss this unique opportunity to be part of an event that will have a lasting positive impact on their college journey.
