The best way to get in the holiday spirit is the Stephenville Downtown Merchants’ Annual Holiday Open House and it’s this Friday.

This event is one of our favorite ways to kick off the holidays in Stephenville. There is always the best shopping, with deals on everything from centerpieces and floral arrangements from Scott’s to the perfect outfit for every occasion from one of the many boutiques or the mercantile, and with the variety of places around the square, there’s a little something for everyone on your list this year.

Event organizers said the open house has been going on for more than 40 years and started with just Scott’s Flowers (when it was where the Johnny & June Mercantile is now) and Frames, Etc. Now the event has grown to include nearly 20 businesses around the Stephenville square.

In addition to shopping, the shops in downtown Stephenville will have wonderful food and refreshments, as well as outstanding live entertainment to get us all in the Christmas spirit. There will even be a harpist performing at Frames, Etc.

There are lots of local businesses participating, including Caam’s, Punchy’s, Daquiriville, Scott’s Flowers, Hearsay Wine Bar, Blue Eyed Buffalo, Brush & Blush, Johnny & June Mercantile, Medzone, CTFAC, Frames Etc. and so many more. There will be door prizes and drawings at various businesses, lots of tasty drinks to keep you warm or cool you down, delicious treats, and don’t forget the deals!

Stop by Frames, Etc early as Julie Lowrance said they will have goodie bags for shoppers while supplies last. There will also be three drawings for some wonderful prizes so make sure you’re signed up.

The folks at the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council will have their gallery open featuring the artwork, notecards and prints of local artists, which will be available for holiday purchases. They will also be hosting a “Create Your Own Fabric Christmas Tree” class.

Live music by Big Joe Walker at Hearsay Wine Bar will start at 7:30 p.m. And Hearsay owner, Lisa Pendleton, said there would be wine tastings all during the event.

Get downtown from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Friday, November 17, for the Annual Holiday Open House. With all these amazing businesses and shops participating this year, it’s sure to be an event you don’t want to miss.
