Stephenville PD makes arrest in Sunday shooting

Stephenville Police Department released information on a recent shooting they are investigating Monday. 

According to the release, “At 9:46 p.m. on December 3, Stephenville PD was dispatched to an injured male in the 300 block of Morgan Mill Road. The victim was taken to a Fort Worth hospital via care flight.”

The victim, who is a registered sex offender and was not identified by police, was unable to identify his attacker. However, SPD said evidence was collected at the scene and an “intense investigation was begun to identify and locate the suspect.”

An additional call was received of an unidentified male wearing gloves and a mask and using a phone to communicate, knocking on another sex offender’s door. 

Stephenville PD identified Charles Austin Broyles and he was taken into custody by the Stephenville PD and Region 8 Special Operations Group without incident. He was booked into the Erath County Jail on charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. No bond was listed as of 6 p.m. 

SPD was the case will be referred to the Erath County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
