The National Finals Rodeo kicks off Thursday, December 7, at the Thomas and Mack Center. This is an exciting time of the year for Erath County, as we will have over 40 locals representing us in the bright lights of Las Vegas!

One of those locals, Buddy Hawkins, is headed to his 6th NFR in the team roping. He will be heeling with his partner, and brother-in-law, Andrew Ward for their 4th consecutive qualification together (2020-2023).

Hawkins is ranked No. 9 in the World with the regular season earnings of $114,765.21.

He said he chose his horse, X, for this year’s NFR because “I ride the most consistent horse I have, the one that scores and fires hard enough for the NRF.”

This year, that horse is X.

The National Finals Rodeo is so exciting because, with this kind of prize money, everyone who qualifies has a chance at the Gold Buckle. The 2023 NFR is set to pay out over $30,000 per night to the winner in each event and nearly $80,000 to the average champion.

Keep an eye out for Hawkins and the many other competitors who will be competing to bring the Gold back to Erath County! The Flash will have daily updates on Facebook and here on the website.
