Hattie Lou Stone, 98, passed away on January 30, 2024, at home in Bluff Dale, Texas.

She was born on August 15, 1925, to Joseph Henry and Mary Long Bramlett, in Erath County, Texas. Lou married the love of her life, John Stone, on April 18, 1945, in Fort Worth, Texas. She had the privilege of seeing other parts of Texas as she lived in El Paso before returning home to Bluff Dale, Texas. She was a hard worker and had many different jobs including an office manager of JC Penny and working for the United Postal Service in Bluff Dale before retiring.

Lou was a committed member of Bluff Dale Baptist Church, and was instrumental in bringing water to the town of Bluff Dale. She served on the water board from the beginning in 1998 until her death and was secretary-treasurer for many years. The president of the water board states that there has never been an interruption of service and the Bluff Dale Water Supply has never failed an audit or an inspection due to Lou’s leadership.

For many years, Lou led the senior citizens of the community of Bluff Dale to gather for games and a time of fellowship at least once a month. If it concerned Bluff Dale, you would find Lou fighting for what was good for the community.

Lou is survived by her children, Jeanie Seely of Athens, Virginia Ann Pratt and her husband, Chuck, of Lindale, Johnny Stone and his wife, Alice, of Lipan, and Vicki Lynn Marsala and her husband, Randy, of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, her grandchildren, Leslie Pratt, Charles Pratt, Jennifer Stone, Joel Stone, Paul Phelps, Rebbeca Phelps Smith, and John Phelps, as well as 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lou is preceded in death by her husband, John, both of her parents, as well as her brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Red Door Ministry at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Stephenville because she said you can do without a lot of things but you can’t do without food
