CORPUS CHRISTI — Tarleton State earned their second draw on the season, a scoreless 0-0 tie at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday afternoon at the Dugan Soccer & Track Stadium.
With the draw the Texans (0-0-2) and Islanders (0-0-2) both start out their 2024 slate with a pair of draws.
Reegan Wagg led the Purple and White with three shots, two on goal. Nicole Fels drew a pair of shots. Goalkeeper Mikayla Kendall earned six saves to improve her season total to 10.
Neither team was able to push across anything in the first half. The Texans led the way with five shots and three on goal. Tarleton’s Wagg had the best scoring chance of the half firing back-to-back point-blank shots at Islanders’ keeper Zoe Theriot. She took the original shot from the side close to the benches and followed up for the kick back finding the chest of Theriot for the second consecutive time in the 33rd minute.
In the second half, the Islanders took control of the momentum firing three shots on goal, but none past Tarleton goalie Kendall. None of the Texans three shots fell on goal, other than a Jessica Baires near-goal in the 67th minute, that was disallowed after a Texan foul.
In the final 15 minutes of play, the Islanders executed one of their best scoring chances of the night. After a long ball in towards the goal, Kendall leaped up drawing contact to swat the ball away and keep the game scoreless heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Neither team was able put any shots on goal in the final 10 minutes. Jenaya Brown found the ball on her foot with five minutes remaining off a corner, but connected high and wide right, leaving the game tied at 0.
The Islanders were given a trio of yellow cards in the contest despite the Texans committing 16 fouls to TAMU-CC’s eight fouls.
Tarleton out-shot the Islanders, 8-7 with the Islanders holding the advantage on goal, 6-3. The Texans kicked six corner kicks to the home team’s four.
Tarleton State will return home on Tuesday, August 20 to start a three-game homestand, opening with UTRGV at 7 p.m. The Texans will play three games in five days closing on Sunday when the first Power Four opponent, Houston, comes to Stephenville for the first time.
