STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Football continues to climb in the national rankings, rising to 14th in both of the prominent FCS ranking systems, announced on Monday.
The Texans climbed two spots in each poll from No. 16. The Texans, now ranked No. 14 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll with 308 points, jumped ahead of Incarnate Word, who had an open week, and Sacramento State, who lost at Northern Arizona. A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote.
In the AFCA FCS Coaches Poll, the Texans rose to No. 14 with 315 points, surpassing Sacramento State and Illinois State, who lost to North Dakota State. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
The Texans have started 4-1 for the third straight season. The No. 14 rankings are their highest in their NCAA Division I era.
Tarleton State is done with non-conference regular season action, with only United Athletic Conference play remaining. The Texans next play on the road at Southern Utah on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.
