
STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton State Soccer can reach as high as the fourth seed in next week’s WAC Tournament with a win on Saturday night against Abilene Christian at 7 p.m. at the Tarleton Soccer Complex.

Tarleton secured its first bid to the WAC Tournament with a 1-0 shutout over SUU last Sunday. The Texans waited for about five minutes after their match to hear the announcement that they had made the tournament after ACU tied Utah Tech. Stevie Reynolds scored the lone goal of the game off a header from an Adelaide Wyrzynski pass in the first half. Keeper Mikayla Kendall notched nine saves in her seventh total shutout and fifth solo shutout on the season.
Tarleton clinched their first bid to the WAC Soccer Tournament on Sunday. The scenarios are as follows:
- 4 seed with TSU win and CBU loss
- 6 seed TSU L + Utah Tech W/T or TSU T + Utah Tech W
- 5 seed any other combo of results
If the Texans clinch the #4 or #5 seed, they will play the first match of the tournament at 4 p.m. CT on Sunday, Nov. 3 in Abilene. If Tarleton clinches the #6 they will play Seattle U or GCU. Seattle U will earn he third seed with a loss or tie or a GCU win. They will earn the #2 seed with a win and GCU loss. Six teams will compete in the 2024 WAC Tournament with the top two seeds earning a bye till Nov. 6.
Goalkeeper Kendall has totaled 99 saves, the most in the conference and ranks eighth in the NCAA. She is second among WAC goalies with 1460 minutes played (34th in the nation) and five shutouts. She also has two combined shutouts with fellow keeper Rylie Bloomfield. Her 0.924 GAA is fourth in the league. She ranks eighth in the nation and second in the WAC with an .868 save percentage. The junior is ranks seventh among active D1 goalies with 5.48 career saves per game. She is also 20th with 285 total saves.
In the third year of the program, many records are beginning to be broken in 2024. Reynolds is the new single season shot record holder with 31 this season. She broke Avery Harr’s record of 28 from last season. Reynolds is also chasing Harr’s shots on goal single season record. The junior transfer has 18 shots on goal. Harr’s 20 from last season is the current program record. In her third season with the Texans junior Jaycie Bass is the new assists career record holder in program history. She has notched four this season totaling eight during her three years with the Texans surpassing Kiki Baurmann’s mark of seven in her lone season in 2022. Jenaya Brown’s 45 shots is the second most in a Texan career. She trails Harr’s 49 set in her first two seasons with the program. Nicole Fels is third in program history with 42.
The Purple and White lead the WAC with a .498 shot accuracy. Tarleton ranks second in the WAC in total goals (27), points (74),fouls (7.11) and goals per game (1.50). TSU is third in the WAC with a +10 goal differential. The Texan goalkeepers rank 10th in the nation and leads the WAC with a .867 save percentage. The staff is 23rd in the country with 6.17 saves per game, which tops the WAC.
Head coach Pete Cuadrado is in his 21st season as a collegiate head coach with Tarleton his third stop on his journey. He started his career at North Dakota State before spending time at Wyoming. During his career, he has amassed 186 wins, with 17 of those coming in the first three seasons of the Tarleton program.
The Texans will compete in its first ever WAC Tournament match next Sunday, Nov. 3. Based on the outcomes of Saturday’s matches the Texans will play in Abilene at either 4 p.m. or 7 p.m. With a win, the Texans would advance to the semifinals on Nov. 6 also in Abilene.
