STEPHENVILLE – It’s been over a year since Tarleton State Football has lost to a non-FBS program, and the voters have kept that in mind as they lifted the Texans in the major national polls once again.

The Texans climbed by a spot to No. 7 in both of the prominent FCS national polls on Monday, the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll and the AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Texans jumped ahead of North Dakota in both polls, who lost on Saturday in overtime at Youngstown State. Tarleton went on the road and knocked off the UAC defending champs, Austin Peay, 27-17 in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday.

In the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll, Tarleton State has 1,012 points. A national media panel selects the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 Poll. A first-place vote is worth 25 points, a second-place vote 24 points, all the way down to one point for a 25th-place vote. In the AFCA Coaches Poll, the Texans have 493 points. The AFCA FCS Coaches Poll is voted on by the panel chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the AFCA their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top-25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second-place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.

These are the highest rankings Tarleton has been slotted in its NCAA Division I era.

The Texans are 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Their 7-1 record through eight games is their best start to a year since beginning 2019 11-0. The Texans have won 11 of their last 12 games, dating back to last season. They are one of eight teams with seven or more wins on the year, and they have the tied-fifth best winning percentage (.875) in the FCS.

Tarleton State now will enjoy three home games over their final four regular season contests. The Texans next host Eastern Kentucky on their Military Appreciation Game on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Tickets can be purchased at www.tareltonsports.com/tickets.
