
SEATTLE – Down by 10 points at halftime, Tarleton State Women’s Basketball mounted a come-from-behind victory over Seattle U on Saturday at the Redhawk Center 79-76 for its 17th win of the season.
The Texans’ 17 wins mark the most by a Tarleton State Women’s Basketball team in the Division I Era, setting a new single season program record. The previous record of 16 games was set in its second season of Division I in 2021-22.
Senior guard Arieona Rosborough led the Texans with 19 points, scoring 17 points in the second half. Rosborough hit five free throws to bring her season total to 103, setting a new single season Division I program record.
Tarleton State had five players score in double figures, including senior guard Jakoriah Long with 15 points off 75% shooting. Senior forward Elise Turrubiates added 13 points and eight rebounds while senior guard Miannah Little scored 11 points in 38 minutes of action. Sophomore center Faith Acker added 10 points off the bench.
Seattle U struck first in the opening period, making a pair of 3-pointers to go up by seven points. The Texans scored seven straight points to tie it up, with a 3-pointer from Turrubiates giving Tarleton State the lead with under two minutes left in the quarter. The Redhawks scored the final five points of the opening period to take a 20-17 lead.
After senior forward Andjela Bigović knocked down a 3-pointer to tie the game, junior guard Kyriana Jones knocked down a basket while drawing a foul to give the Texans the lead in the second quarter. Seattle U, however, responded with five unanswered points to regain the advantage. The Redhawks ended the first half on a 7-0 scoring run to go ahead 39-29 at halftime.
Looking to secure its first WAC win of the season, Seattle U continued to use its offensive attack to extend its lead in the third quarter. The Redhawks drew a pair of fouls and knocked down four free throws to move ahead by 12 points three minutes into the third quarter.
Seattle U looked to cruise to a win with the double-digit lead, but Tarleton State had other plans in mind.
The Texans surged to a 12-0 scoring run, capped off by a Long 3-pointer and a Rosborough jumper to tie the game. Another 3-pointer by Long and a fastbreak layup from the senior point guard allowed the Texans to take a five-point lead in the closing seconds of the third quarter. Rosborough got the offensive rebound and beat the buzzer on the Texans’ final possession to give Tarleton State a 55-48 advantage going into the final 10 minutes.
Seattle U looked to trim the deficit and made it a four-point game with a pair of free throws along with a layup. The Texans pushed their lead back out to nine points thanks to a Rosborough jumper and an Acker layup. Rosborough made another basket with one minute left to give the Texans an eight-point lead.
The Redhawks looked for a late comeback, hitting a layup and a 3-pointer after a Texan turnover to make it a one-possession game. Seattle U forced the Texans to miss a jumper on its next possession, converting a layup with eight seconds to go. The Texans hit both free throws after getting fouled and forced the Redhawks to miss the game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer to secure the come-from-behind win.
Tarleton State returns to Stephenville for one of its final two games at Wisdom Gym on Saturday, February 22. The Texans face UT Arlington at 2 p.m. in a critical game for the No. 2 seed in the WAC Tournament.

- With its 17th win of the season, the Texans secured the most single season victories since the program moved to Division I. The previous record was 16 wins during the 2021-22 season, the program’s second year in Division I.
- Tarleton State won its second game of the season where the Texans went into halftime trailing. Two out of the Texans’ last three games have resulted in victories when they had a halftime deficit.
- Senior guard Arieona Rosborough led the Texans with 19 points, scoring 17 points in the second half. Rosborough shot 60% from the floor in the second half.
- Rosborough had five made free throws, having 103 made free throws on the season. She set a new Division I Era program record for made free throws in a single season.
- Senior guard Jakoriah Long scored 15 points on Saturday, making six of her eight shots. Long has scored at least 15 points in five consecutive games.
