STEPHENVILLE — Tarleton State Men’s and Women’s Track set a three school records in two different meets in two different states in their final meets of the regular season.

The majority of the Texans competed on Friday and Saturday at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational in Albuquerque, NM at the Albuquerque Convention Center hosted by the University of New Mexico. The Texan distance runners competed at the Jarvis Scott Invite on Friday and Saturday in Lubbock, Texas at the Texas Tech Sports Performance Center hosted by Texas Tech.

“I truly believe we are in a great spot going into the conference championships,” said head coach Bobby Carter. “As always, I am very proud of this team and what we are moving towards. The biggest thing I tell my team, is that regardless of what the result is, learn from it and let’s get back to work. It was great seeing many more school records fall at both meets. This team is ready to shock the world! Greater is coming!”

On Friday night, three Texans knocked down school records. Morgan Lamberson set the indoor 800 record at the Jarvis Scott. Two records fell in New Mexico as well. Hanna Dudley and Lauren Roy tied to break the 200-record set by Amandine Estival last weekend. In an epic battle for the long jump school record, Lokesh Sathyanathan emerged with the new program record at the home of his former school.

Lamberson broke her second record of the weekend on Saturday afternoon when three women posted top-six times in program history in the mile.

Day 1

Sathyanathan and Sir Jonathan Sims battled for the school record in the long jump. Last week Sims edged Sathyanathan by 0.04 meters to win the Steve Miller long jump and own the school record. However, the tables were turned in New Mexico. Sims broke his own record his set last weekend with a 7.70 meter leap on his second jump to set the new school record, but it lasted just a few seconds. Two jumpers later, the former Aggie jumper, Sathyanathan, landed at 7.92 meters (26 feet), to set the new record again. After Sims fouled on each of his next two attempts, he improved his personal best to 7.78 meters, but it just wasn’t enough to overtake Sathyanathan. Sathyanathan also won the event, with Sims earning a third-place finish. Sathyanathan’s final best of 7.92 meters would have ranked in the top 5 in the NCAA after last week’s performances but should be close to that mark by the end of the weekend with the other competitions across the nation.

Gabriele Tosti increased his personal best in the long jump to 7.07 meters, upping his sixth-best mark in program history.

In the 200, Dudley broke Estival’s school record she set last weekend. Dudley won her heat going away in 23.92 seconds, .09 seconds faster than Estival. However, a few hours later, Roy posted a 23.92-second run to tie Dudley for the school record.

With her effort, Roy posted the fasted 200-time this year by an Ireland-born woman. Roy is the only Ireland woman to record a sub-24 second time in the 200 this calendar year.

Malak Rashwan posted another top 10 performance in school history. This time in the long jump, posting the ninth best jump in program history, 5.41 meters.

Day 2

Sims and Tosti finished first and second on day two in the triple jump. Sims’ best leap of 15.81 meters won the triple jump. Tosti finished second just 0.4 meters behind. Tosti set the school record last season with a 16.03-meter leap.

Victoria Cameron ran her first race that she did not set a school record in this season. The redshirt-freshman ran 7.21 seconds in the perlims and finals of the 60 meter dash, behind Oregon’s Jadyn Mays, who ran in 7.18 seconds.

In the men’s 800, Kebede Kerlin posted the seventh best 800 time in program history crossing in 1:56.89. Kerlin made his collegiate debut in the 800, running it for the first time indoors.

Day 2

Lamberson broke the old record set by Lindsey Hinton in 2014 by nearly seven seconds, crossing in 4:58.67. Sage Lancaster also nearly broke the old record, finishing in 5:05.71 to set a new personal best and the third best time in program history. Freshman Ella Smart improved her personal record to 5:11.53 and claim the sixth best performance in school history.

Kaitlyn Gale set a new personal best and improved her second-best time in program history to 10:20.92. Gale finished fifth in the event. The program record was set in 2016 by Aly Coughlin (9:54.1)

Freshman Toby Eaton turned in a sixth-place finish in the men’s 3000 meters. Jace Poole earned a top 10 finish. Angel Gomez finished 11th overall but won his heat in 8:48.57.

Tarleton State will have a week off before competing in the postseason. The Texans will head to Spokane, Wash. to compete in the WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Podium on Feb. 28 and March 1.
