Violet Mae Branch was born on November 2, 1935, in Dwight, Nebraska to John and Alice (Nekuda) Kouma and passed away on April 6, 2025, in Lincoln, Nebraska at the age of 89 years, 5 months and 4 days.
Violet grew up on a farm east of Dwight and attended Dwight Public School. She helped on the farm as a farmhand, and she knew how to do everything. Violet was a hard worker and very multi-talented. She was employed at the Seward Country Club and was the head cook at Dale’s Steakhouse. Violet also sold Avon and Watkins food seasonings.
Violet was united in marriage to Richard Skoda and to this union four children were born. They later divorced and she moved to Clairette, Texas in 1985. There she worked as a nanny for two years during that time. She married Tommy Branch in 1987, and later moved to Hico, Texas. Tommy passed away in 2003, and she remained in Hico for one year before making the move to Nebraska for one year, Arizona for two years, then returning to Nebraska.
Violet loved flowers and gardening. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and spent lots of time crocheting tea towels and doilies. Above all, Violet loved spending time with her grandchildren. She especially loved her granddaughter, Stacy, where they spent lots of Summers together. Violet spent the past six years in assisted living.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Randall Skoda; grandson, Adam Skoda; brother, Ben Kouma.
Survivors cherishing her memory include her children, Steven and wife, Sharon Skoda, Lincoln, Rick and wife, Catherine Skoda, Seward, Denise and husband, David Fechner, Bee; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; siblings, Martha Dolezal, Bernice Stubbs, Johnny Kouma and Gerald Kouma.
Service Information
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 16, in the Country Oaks Cemetery in Hico.
