With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Johnie Fae Smith, who left us peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2025, at the age of 93. Born in Dublin, Tx January 17, 1932, to John Lee Carlisle, former mayor of Cleburne, and Eula Faye Carlisle.
She was a Glen Rose High School graduate, then later went to TCU & Tarleton State University where she met the love of her life Kenneth A. Smith whom she married on December 30, 1951. Together, they built a life in Cleburne and had 4 children. She was very active in the Cleburne community and various associations, She was nominated as “Lady of the Year” in 1978 by the Eta Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi for her community work, including Sunday School teacher & choir assistant at Field Street Baptist Church, helped organize the first pre-school PTA, den mother in the Cub Scouts, Camp Fire Leader, and was a charter member since 1970 of the Child Welfare Board where she and Kenneth welcomed over 50 foster children into their home throughout the years. She was also a member of the Opti-Mrs. Club in 1954.
Johnie Fae kept the home well when she wasn’t traveling the world with Kenneth on his business trips. They enjoyed experiencing the various foods and wines from their adventures and would come home to share their stories. Family was always one of Johnie Fae’s greatest joys. She created a photo album for each family member and could tell you with great detail the story behind the numerous trinkets from years gone by. She held family close to her heart, was soft spoken but loved fiercely. She touched not only the lives of her family, but countless friends through the years. Her legacy of grace, elegance and wisdom will live on as we carry her memory in our hearts.
Johnie Fae is the cherished mother of Doug Smith and wife Varanya of Bangkok, Thailand, Phil Smith and wife Sherri of Cleburne, Judy Morriss and husband Wade of Cleburne, and daughter in law Tina Smith of Cleburne. Also, the devoted grandmother to Jeff Smith, Jason Smith, Justin Smith, April Hankins and husband Kirt, Amber Bishop and husband Roger, Nolan Smith and wife Brittany, Josh Grantham and wife Mary, Paul Nitanontawat, Becky Nitanontawat, Malissa and husband Billy Don Evans, Rhonda and husband Keith Greenwade, Mandi Morriss, Magen and husband Justin Coates along with 16 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Smith and son Steve Smith.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 10:00am at Harrell Funeral Home in Dublin, Texas with graveside services to follow at the New Dublin Liveoak Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome to attend and honor her memory.
