(January 17, 1931 – June 9, 2025)

Helen Stephens was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She passed away peacefully on June 9th, surrounded by loved ones.

She was born in El Paso, TX on January 17, 1931, and moved to Baltimore, MD while still an infant.  She loved Baltimore and had many happy memories including her time at Seton High School, her first job at the Enoch Pratt Free Library, working as a secretary in the physics lab at Johns Hopkins University, and meeting her future husband at an afternoon Tea Dance at Annapolis Naval Academy.

After a 4-year courtship, on June 3, 1955, she married the love of her life, Jerry D. Stephens in the chapel at the Naval Academy.  As the wife of an Air Force Officer, she lived in Germany, Florida, California, North Dakota, Colorado, Massachusetts, and then Texas where, in 1975, she and her family settled in Dublin. They were blessed to have 57 years together before Jerry’s passing in 2012.

Helen’s Catholic faith was strong. She loved every church she attended, particularly St. Dominic’s, St. Anthony’s, and The Shrine of the Little Flower in Baltimore, St. Mary’s in Dublin, and Prince of Peace in Houston.  She was always involved in church ministries, some of which included Bible studies, taking the Eucharist to the homebound, teaching religious education classes, making and caring for altar linens, and making baptismal garments.  Her passion for making and donating rosaries began around 1962 and continued until June 3, 2025, when she completed her last rosary.

Helen was a loving wife and mother. Her children include Joe Stephens and wife Sheryl, Mike Stephens and his late wife, Peggy, Mary Vacek and her husband Bill, Daniel Stephens (deceased), and Peter Stephens and his wife Catalina.  She has 18 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed.

In lieu of plants or flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dublin where Helen was a member for 47 years, or a charity of your choice.

Keep yourselves in the love of God; wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. (Jude 21)

Rosary will be held Saturday, June 21, 2025, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 9:15am with Mass to follow at 10:00am and interment at the Lower Greens Creek Cemetery.
