Staley’s 7.1 Sets Ford Wyoming Center Arena Record

STEPHENVILLE — Travis Staley made a historic statement in Wednesday night’s performance of the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo.

Tarleton State University tie-down roper Travis Staley set an arena record with his 7.1-second time Wednesday at the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. 

The Tarleton State University tie-down roper posted a 7.1-second run, the fastest time recorded in competition at the Ford Wyoming Center. The time vaulted the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Lone Star Region champion into the top spot in the third go-round.

Teammate Taylon Carmody posted an 81.50-point ride Wednesday, lifting him into third place in the go-round. Carmody’s three-head 238.25 total features two scores over 80 points.

Dalton Porch added a 7.2-second run on Wednesday, ninth in the third go-round.

Thursday night’s performance will include five Tarleton State rodeo athletes in four events. Clay Greenslade will compete in both saddle bronc and bareback riding. Saddle bronc rider Waitley Sharon will make his third appearance in Casper, as will tie-down roper Porch and goat tyer Faith Lundberg.

Saturday’s championship finals will feature the top 12 qualifiers in each event.
