Sport: STEPHENVILLE (January 13, 2015) — Tarleton State is still in the top 10 after suffering its first loss of the season last week at Angelo State.
The Texans rebounded from last Wednesday’s 78-60 road loss in San Angelo by defeating Texas A&M-Kingsville 59-44 back home at Wisdom Gym. They slid seven spots to No. 10 in this week’s NABC poll, released Tuesday afternoon.
Tarleton isn’t the only Lone Star Conference team earning national acclaim. With its upset of the Texans, Angelo State jumped five spots to No. 14, and Midwestern State received the most votes of teams that did not make the top 25. Texas A&M-Commerce is also receiving votes in the poll.
Tarleton and Midwestern add another chapter to their storied rivalry at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in Wisdom Gym, following a women’s contest at 5:30.
The South Central Region is loaded with ranked teams, and they shuffled spots after ASU’s upset of Tarleton, several stirring results in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and the first loss of the season by St. Edward’s of the Heartland Conference.
No. 5 Colorado School of Mines is the only remaining unbeaten team in the region. RMAC members Colorado-Colorado Springs and Metropolitan State (Colo.) are No. 8 and No. 17, respectively, and St. Edward’s is No. 23.
West Liberty (W.Va.) retained its spot atop the poll, and is followed in the top five by Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.), Indianapolis, Bellarmine (Ky.) and Colorado Mines. The rest of the top 10, in order, are Florida Southern, Barry (Fla.), UCCS, Augustana (SD) and Tarleton.
