STEPHENVILLE (September 6, 2018) – Hair stylists at File & Style, a beauty salon here in Stephenville, have come up with the idea for a new event called Brews & Braids which will teach fathers and their daughters how to do three simple hairstyles. The event will be on Sep. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at File & Style located at 120 S. Harbin St. and donations will also be accepted for the Erath County Humane Society.

Brews & Braids will be a “come and go” event for dads and daughters of any age.

The dads will learn how to do a simple braid, a simple ponytail and a “topsy” ponytail as well as how to do Mickey Mouse ears and how to use a straightening iron.

A photo booth will be set up where the dads can take a picture with their daughters afterward. The photographer will be Amauri Martinez. The photo booth will have different backgrounds and several props as well.

There will also be a contest for the dads with the best hairdo and a prize will be given to the dad with the best hairstyle. Root beer floats will also be served.

There will be four hairstylists there to help the dads with assistance: Amanda Norman, Ginger Herbst, Brenda Mosher and Dana Whitten.

Whitten is on the Erath County Humane Society board and she was the one who came up with the idea for the Brews & Braids event.

“Well we’ve been wanting to do something as a salon for the community and we tried to think of something and on the board, we’re always trying to think of different fundraisers, so we decided it would be a unique way to combine the two,” Whitten said. “We’ve had a really good response so far just on Facebook and people saying, ‘What a great idea,’ and that they’re going to come so I hope it’s going to be a good turnout.”

Whitten encourages dads and daughters to come and spend quality time together and to donate to the Erath County Humane Society.

“We are trying to raise money for our new shelter so as many donations as possible would be greatly appreciated and we just hope everybody has a fun time with their daddy-daughter time,” Whitten added.
