Jergins officially ousted as Tarleton’s VP of student life

STEPHENVILLE (November 7, 2014) — Almost two months after being placed on administrative leave pending an investigation into his department, Tarleton State Vice President for Student Life Rusty Jergins has officially been dismissed from all affiliations with the university, according to a statement released Friday by the office of President Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio.

The statement, reported first by the Texan News Service on its website, texannews.net, reads:

“In September, Tarleton State University requested that the Texas A&M University System begin an investigation into the Division of Student Life. The system has completed its investigation and reported the findings to President F. Dominic Dottavio.

“Based on these findings, the university has decided to make a leadership change. Rusty Jergins is no longer affiliated with Tarleton State University, and thus, is no longer serving in the capacity of Vice President for Student Life.”

The statement goes on to name Darla Doty the interim Vice President for Student Life.

Nothing in the brief statement suggests what investigators discovered concerning Jergins, who was placed on administrative leave on Sept. 12. He was investigated months earlier in a TAMU System internal audit for possible ethics violations regarding a recent political campaign, but it is not clear if the two investigations were related in any way.

The Office of the President at Tarleton State University released a statement Friday stating that Vice President of Student Life.
