SAN ANTONIO (November 29, 2014) — Stephenville FAITH head coach Nick Braun shied away from terms such as “dynasty” leading up to Saturday’s Texas Christian Athletic League Six-Man Division II state championship.
But four straight titles don’t lie.
Stephenville FAITH captured its fourth straight championship in a 38-29 victory over Fort Bend Homeschool at Benson Stadium Saturday. The Knight seniors walked off the field knowing nothing except state titles for their entire high school careers.
Fort Bend provided a stronger than expected challenge to the Knights, much stronger than any TCAL opponent they have seen this season.
But with the Knights leading by nine late in the contest, Travis Loper made a big fourth down stop for the Knights inside their one-yard line. That, paired with a big gain by a scrambling Shadd Cole on a fake punt moments later were too much for Fort Bend to overcome.
Fort Bend scored for a 29-24 lead in the third quarter, but Cole, with the FAITH line giving him an abundance of time to pass, hit Loper for a long touchdown and a lead the Knights would never relinquish.
Fort Bend turned the ball over on a fumble early in the fourth quarter, and Cole followed with a long run, setting up his own short TD burst to finish the scoring.
Another turnover also helped the Knights’ cause in the fourth as the Chargers muffed a punt and Joey Braun was there for the FAITH recovery.
