Huckabay teams split with Lipan on road

(January 20, 2015) — JW Weiss poured in 22 points as Huckabay (12-10, 2-0) earned a key 53-41 road win over Lipan in the District 18-A boys basketball race Tuesday night.

Weiss scored 13 points after intermission, and the Indians needed it with Gavin Fuentes scoring all of his 12 before halftime. Cade Little also scored 12, giving Huckabay three in double figures.

Levi Dowell had four for the Indians, Ky Bray two and Jordan Ritchey one.

The much-improved Lady Indians (15-7, 2-2) took on a tall order against state power Lipan, and fell 63-36. Presli Bray scored 11 to lead the Lady Indians, who also picked up eight from Tiffany Lopez and seven from LeAnn Green.

Taylor Lowe scored five, Bailey Woolridge three and Emily Altebaumer two for Huckabay.

Both HHS teams host Gorman Friday, the girls at 6:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 8.
