(January 31, 2015) — It was a tale of two halves. And as good as Saturday’s first half was for Tarleton, the second was much better for Texas A&M-Commerce.
Good enough for the Lady Lions to defeat the TexAnns 84-77 at The Fieldhouse. Good enough to take over sole possession of fourth place in the Lone Star Conference while dropping Tarleton to sixth.
The TexAnns led 38-27 at halftime, then were outscored 57-39 after intermission. Now they are faced with their second game in 22 hours, and it’s just as big a test. Tarleton hosts Texas Woman’s at 2 p.m. Sunday at Wisdom Gym as the TexAnns look to avenge a 63-54 road loss on January 3.
How different were the two halves of Saturday’s game?
Tarleton shot 45 percent and A&M-Commerce just 34 percent in the first half. The Lady Lions then caught fire and shot 56 percent from the floor and the arc in the second half, while Tarleton shot just 31 percent including only 21 percent from 3-point range.
Raven McGrath scored a career-best 22 to lead the TexAnns. She was matched by Gaby Scott, who had 16 after halftime for A&M-Commerce.

Karli Moore scored 12 and Bailey Wipff nine for Tarleton, while Ikpeaku Iwobi had nine points and eight rebounds, Morgan Ashmore scored nine and Kathy Thomas tallied eight points and six assists.
The Lady Lions had five double-digit scorers. Behind Scott, Kiana Evans had 12 points and six boards, Artaejah Gay posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds and Ashley Johnson netted 11 points and hit the glass eight times. Natalie Hessong also scored 11.
Notes: Tarleton still holds a 25-18 advantage in its all-time series with A&M-Commerce.
