(February 26, 2015) — Tarleton State (16-9) enjoyed its midweek break from Lone Star Conference play to the tune of a 85-62 thumping of McMurry (4-21) Wednesday at Kimbrell Arena in Abilene.
Tarleton had 14 different players score points, led by Meagan O’Dell, who pumped in 14 on what amounted to a homecoming night for the native of Tuscola, just outside Abilene. She was 3-4 from the arc and 5-5 from the foul stripe.
Raven McGrath was 4-6 from the floor, 2-2 from the arc and made both her free throws en rout to 12 points and four assists for Tarleton, which shot 50 percent from the floor and a blistering hot 68.8 percent (11-16) from behind the arc.
Breanna Fuller scored eight for Tarleton, which hosts Texas A&M-Commerce at 5 p.m. Saturday at Wisdom Gym.
The TexAnns are alone in fourth in the league, but TAMUC is just a game back in sixth with Texas Woman’s – whose regular season is complete – in between. Tarleton will grab the No. 4 seed in next week’s LSC Championship with a win, but would be the No. 5 or No. 6 seed with a loss on Saturday.
Ikpeaku Iwobi scored seven points and grabbed a team-leading seven boards Wednesday. Also scoring seven were Bailey Wipff and Karli Moore, while Kathy Thomas netted six.
McMurry shot just 34.6 percent including only 15.8 percent from the arc, where the TexAnns outscored the Warhawks 33-9. McMurry did have three double-digit scorers – Taylor Russell and Mishae Roper with 13 each and Tayler Boroson with 10.
