STEPHENVILLE (March 3, 2015) — Following a great deal of research by new director of community services Jeremy Allen, the Stephenville City Council voted to approve rate changes and the addition of party packages for Splashville as part of its regular council meeting Tuesday night.

“I looked at about 10 different cities and compared the services they were offering and the rates they were charging as I looked at establishing the new rates and party packages we now have in place,” Allen said. “When I interviewed for the job here one of the hypothetical questions I was asked concerned the swimming pool and ways to keep it from losing money.”

As Allen points out, the swimming pool is a quality of life service and not really designed to turn a profit as much as just pay for itself.

“It’s a fine line we are trying to establish that will allow us to make the pool a focal point and make it a  reason for people to want to come to town,” Allen said. “That’s why we have added specials like a twilight fee from 5 to 7 p.m. for just two dollars per person. We are starting ‘Monday Mania’ where admission is just three dollars per person.”

In approving the new rate changes, the Council did away with the nonresident fee that hindered people from out of town coming and swimming. It is an attempt to bring prices in line and, of course, to put more people in the swimming pool.

Alan made his recommendations based on the goals of safety, quality of life service to the city and the surrounding citizens for all users, family-friendly fun, affordable for all to use and to make the pool self-sufficient.

“Hopefully we are going to be able to reach all of those goals where the pool will pay for itself, and everyone will be able to enjoy it at a reasonable cost,” Allen said.

  1. What they shouldn’t do I’d charge people to come in and watch there kid. Not swim at all. That is ridiculous!!!

  2. Open fewer hours on Monday yet at a lower cost, pool will be crowed that day and the other days the price went up, so even fewer than last year wil l go.
The problem with Splashville has always been that it was designed for younger kids. Tweens and teens have very little to enjoy!
Party pkgs are ok, but what about if an organization would like to rent the entire facility on off hours? Eastland does and its very reasonably priced!
The first year we went 3~4 times a week, last year maybe 3~4 times all year. I think the city needs to rethink this!

  3. The reason Splashville doesn’t make any money or even pay for itself is because it is not a POOL it is a place for little kids to splash. We are long time residents and have only been to Splashville a few times (less than 5) since it opened. You can’t swim. It’s too shallow, overcrowded and small. Instead of dumping the millions of dollars into that wading pool it would have been nice for the City to have invested in updated Rec facilities and built better activity venues for our youth, Seniors and people of the Ville who would like to exercise, walk, run , swim, in a safe and modern facility.

  4. Splashville does allow to rent the entire pool in our off hours. This year we will also allowed adult non swimmers come to watch their kids without charging them. We hope to bring a family friendly atmosphere.
