(April 15, 2015) — In it’s one-game hiatus from District 6-4A action, Stephenville scored three runs in the seventh inning to win 5-3 over Ranger College Junior Varsity Tuesday evening.
After grabbing a 1-0 lead in the second, the Yellow Jackets surrendered three runs in the third, the only inning in which Ranger would score. Stephenville cut its deficit to one with a run in the sixth before exploding in the seventh.
Vanderbilt-bound Maddux Conger was 2-for-3 from the plate, driving in two runs and scoring two. Bradley Morrison was 2-for-4 and had the only other RBI for the Jackets, who also scored a pair of unearned runs courtesy of three Ranger College errors.
Morrison also provided three perfect innings of relief to earn the win on the mound. He struck out three during that stretch, hitting the strike zone on 70 percent of his 30 pitches. Josh Bulla started for the Jackets, striking out five and allowing three runs – one was unearned – on five hits while walking two over four innings.
Stephenville resumes 6-4A play Friday at Mineral Wells, starting at 7:30 p.m. A junior varsity game begins at 5:30 p.m.
