(May 1, 2015) — Alyssa Ringhausen stepped from the bench to the batter’s box and lifted a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to the outfield, bringing the winning run in a 2-1 Tarleton State victory over Texas A&M-Commerce to being the Lone Star Conference Softball Championship in Canyon Friday.
No. 3 seed Tarleton secured its first 30-win season since 2012 and third of the last 10 years, and moves on to face No. 2 seed Texas Woman’s at 4 p.m. Friday.
Haley Freyman keyed the victory for Tarleton with her 13th complete game and 20th win from the circle for the TexAnns, striking out three and allowing just six hits along the way. The freshman from North Richland Hills took a shutout into the seventh inning before a leadoff home run by Aundria Zunigia-Romero tied the score.
Another pinch hitter, Shelby Hedrick, walked to begin Tarleton’s half of the seventh, and courtesy runner Taylor Fitzgerald reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Lauren Powers that led to a throwing error by No. 6 seed TAMUC. Melody Mayse was walked intentionally to load the bases before Ringhauser lifted the game-winning sac fly to center field.
Tarleton also scored on a solo home run by freshman catcher Nyka Wood, another North Richland Hills product.
