STEPHENVILLE (May 4, 2015) — It’s safe to say Levi Dowell has peaked at the right time.
The Huckabay shot putter smashed his personal record and punched a ticket to the UIL State Meet when he heaved the shot 43 feet, 11.5 inches at the Region I-A track and field meet at Tarleton Memorial Stadium last weekend.
“He reached down and found another foot and a half at just the right time,” said Huckabay coach Bryan Blackwell. “That just shows what a great competitor he is.”

Dowell, who competes at state at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 15, at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, wasn’t the only local competitor to earn a medal in the region.
Lingleville middle-distance standout Bailey Fenn finished third in the boys 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 13.66 seconds. The Cardinal 4×200 meter relay team of Tom VanKranenburg, Devon Corpus, Adrian Briseno and Fenn lowered their best time but did not reach the finals.
