STEPHENVILLE (May 7, 2015) — Tarleton State added a third high school prospect to its 2015 women’s basketball recruiting class Thursday morning, when head coach Misty Wilson and the university’s athletic media relations department announced the signing of Catherine Okwilagwe of Garland.

Okwilagwe, a 6-2 center, joins Karah Sicurella of Sunnyvale and Shelby Mankins of Joshua as incoming freshmen for the 2015-16 season. Okwilagwe averaged 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots to lead Lakeview Centennial to third place in District 11-6A.

Cathy is a tremendous athlete with great size and feel for the game,” said Wilson, according to a release from Tarleton. “She will give us more size and physicality down low.”

Okwilagwe was receiving attention of Division I programs before suffering an injury that took away her junior season.

“Before the injury Cathy was one of the top recruits in the state,” said Wilson, according to the release. “She has shown passion and toughness battling back from that, and we look forward to her reaping the benefits of that dedication.”

Tarleton is fresh off a 17-10 season, the first with Wilson as head coach. She was previously an assistant coach for more than a decade after a stellar playing career with the TexAnns. Tarleton was defeated in the opening round of the Lone Star Conference Championship and missed the South Central Regional for the first time since 2009.
