(July 20, 2015) — The Stephenville Mongooses and Dublin Astros are on to the winner’s bracket, while the previously unbeaten Stephenville Mets find themselves on the brink of elimination after the opening round of games in the Texas Teenage Baseball 15U state tournament in Colorado City.
The Mongooses made the biggest opening-round statement with a 10-0 win over the Copperas Cove Champs. Zane Smith led the way with a complete-game shutout on the mound.
The Astros edged the Ennis Cubs 12-9, while the Mets fell 15-6 to Grapeland.
The Mongooses and Astros could be on a collision course. Both play at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, the Mongooses against Ballinger Elite and the Astros against Winters Royals, with the winners to meet in the next round. The Mets look to stave off elimination against the Ennis Cubs at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
