Albany pulls away from Dublin in fourth quarter

(September 5, 2015) — Bob Cervetto isn’t hanging his head, and neither are his Dublin Lions.

Albany scored the final 20 points to beat Dublin 40-14 and extend its home winning streak to 39 games dating back to 2007.

But in the third quarter, even with a backup quarterback leading the offense, Dublin trimmed the Albany margin to 20-14. Trask Brown answered the call of duty when starting QB Brady Moore suffered a sprained ankle, and Brown tossed a 40-yard TD to Chuy Chacon to make it a one-score game in the latter stages of the third quarter.

“We were right there. I don’t think the final score was really indicative of the way the game was played,” said Cervetto Saturday morning. “I don’t mean that to take anything away from Albany. Those guys played in the state championship game at AT&T Stadium last year, and they have a great team and a great coach in Denny Faith.

“I say that because I’m proud of our team and the way they played, taking it to them for three quarters,” he added. “It was a good football game.”

Dublin fans were on Twitter proclaiming those back home in Erath County were missing a good one, and apparently, they were right.

Dublin actually held an early 7-6 before Albany scored twice for a 20-7 advantage at the break.

The Lions have their annual homecoming game on Friday, September 11, when Rio Vista visits Dublin’s Memorial Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
