STEPHENVILLE (October 10, 2015) — Chandler Gow posted a double-double for the second time in less than 24 hours and All-American Hailey Roberts killed 30 balls in a four-set Tarleton State (16-3, 6-1) win over Midwestern State (5-16, 0-7) at Wisdom Volleyball Gym Saturday.
Gow made 53 assists and 12 digs in the 25-13, 25-22, 21-25, 25-19 win, the eighth straight by Tarleton. The TexAnns are home again Friday at 6 p.m. when first place in the league will be on the line against Texas Woman’s. Tarleton, TWU and Angelo State are all tied for first place in the LSC.
Roberts had nine kills in each of the opening two sets, including four over the fnal eight points in the second-set comeback. Tarleton called timeout trailing 20-19 and scored four straight – three of them by the sophomore outside hitter from Cedar Park and one on a block by senior middle Kenya Alexander – to lead 23-20 en rout to a 2-0 lead in the match.
Midwestern staved off a sweep by winning the third, but Tarleton went right back to work, building an 11-4 lead early in a fourth set that was never close.
Roberts hit .333 and Tarleton hit .222 as a team while holding MSU to .072. It was the fifth 30-kill performance of the season by the LSC Preseason Player of the Year.
Alexander had 10 kills and three blocks, her fifth double-digit kill performance and the second in three matches. Kelsey Raglin tallied eight kills and 12 digs. Gow added five kills and two blocks to her spectacular all-around performance. She reached 50 assists for the fifth time this season while picking up her fourth career double-double.
Ayssa Garcia led the defense with 22 digs after making 20 Friday night. The reigning LSC Defensive Player of the Week has five 20-dig performances this season.
MSU was led in kills by Hunter Porter with 11, blocks by Kiley Beaver with six, assists by Hayden Blair with 30 and digs by Matti Dix with 18.
