(January 25, 2016) — Lingleville has made good of something tragic, and Tuesday night, while mourning again the lost of a beloved young man, the Cardinal faithful will unite for the good that has come from his passing.

Bart VanKranenburg Memorial Night is on tap at Lingleville High School in conjunction with basketball games against district rival Gorman. The evening begins with a junior varsity boys contest at 5 p.m. The varsity games, beginning with girls, tip off at about 6:30 and 8 p.m.

VanKranenburg’s sudden passing in December of 2014 rocked the rural community and all of Erath County. A memorial scholarship foundation was quickly established, and all proceeds from Tuesday’s event benefit the scholarship foundation.

A large silent auction will include everything from gift certificates and baked goods to jewelry and even large items such as televisions and a grill. A cake raffle will have five winners, chances at a half court shot for a prize will be sold and profits from concessions – including a barbecue and baked potato dinner – will also go to the scholarship foundation.

There will be t-shirt and bracelet sales and much more, all in commemoration of VanKranenburg, who was a 16 year old junior involved in FFA, football, basketball, track and field and more.

The VanKranenburgs have long been intricately woven into the fabric of the Lingleville community and school. Robert VanKranenburg was a four-time all-state basketball player and all-state football player. Tom VanKranenburg currently plays football, basketball and more for the Cardinals.

Several neighboring school districts showed their support for the Lingleville community last season, wearing the popular BVK35 T-shirts during pre game warmups when facing the Cardinals.
