STEPHENVILLE (January 31, 2016) — Stephenville senior receiver and punter Josh Nowell verbally committed to Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls Sunday afternoon.

Nowell posted news of his commitment to his Twitter account just after 5 p.m. Sunday.

National signing day is Wednesday at Stephenville High School, where four girls soccer standouts are also scheduled to sign letters of intent or commitment.

Nowell has received recruiting interest as both a receiver and punter. He stands 6-5 and has a proven knack for catching jump balls. He was also honorable-mention all-state as a punter, helping the Yellow Jackets to the area round of the 4A playoffs after they won a bi-district playoff for the 11th straight year.

A versatile offensive weapon, Nowell even doubled as a quarterback and showed his running skills while carrying Stephenville to a game-winning drive against 5A power Everman.

Midwestern won the Lone Star Conference playoff title after finishing second in the regular season in 2015. The Mustangs were the No. 1 seed entering the NCAA Division II Super Region IV playoffs and fell in the second round to then-reigning national champ Colorado State-Pueblo.
