(February 10, 2016) — JW Weiss buried six 3-pointers on his way to 27 points Tuesday, leading Huckabay to a crucial 42-39 district win over Gorman.
Weiss started slow, hitting just one 3-ball for his only points of the first quarter, that ended with Huckabay trailing, 16-9.
But as Weiss took off, so did the Indians. The senior guard buried a couple threes and converted an old-fashioned 3-point play in the second, then erupted for three shots from deep and scored 13 in the third before a pair of free throws in the fourth.
It was a sluggish ending to the game as neither team could score in the fourth quarter. Huckabay led by one after the third, and outscored Gorman 4-2 in the fourth.
Gage Dowell scored eight points for Huckabay, including two free throws in the fourth, when the Indians held on despite not connecting on a field goal.
Jordan Ritchey aded three points for the Indians, while Taylor Lopez and Austin Wells each had two.
Huckabay visits Gordon at 6:30 p.m. Friday then concludes the regular season at home against Lingleville at 6:30 p.m. next Tuesday, February 16.
