STEPHENVILLE (May 19, 2016) — Huckabay ISD awoke this morning without a boys basketball coach.
Bryan Blackwell received school board approval late Wednesday night naming him the head boys coach at Christoval, about 20 miles south of San Angelo.
Blackwell was head coach for three seasons in Huckabay, leading the Indians to a district championship and on to the Class A regional semifinals his first season and to the regional quarterfinals each of the last two. His record at Huckabay was 63-34, with the Indians winning three consecutive area titles under his tutelage.
“I’m excited to start the next chapter of my career, but at the same time, I’m sad to leave Huckabay,” Blackwell said. “I’ve coached some great kids and met some great people in Huckabay, and its always sad to leave a place after you make relationships with the kids and around the community.”
Blackwell came to Huckabay after being an assistant coach at 3A state power Brock.
Christoval was 26-7 last season, also winning a Class A area title and reaching the regional quarterfinals.
