This year marks the 37th annual masterworks performance on the Stephenville campus. In all, more than 130 musicians will combine for this holiday tradition, all under the direction of Dr. Troy Robertson, Tarleton’s director of choirs.

Composed in 1741 and based on Biblical text, “Handel’s Messiah occupies a special place in music in that it is such a cornerstone masterwork, a piece to which we return again and again,” said Robertson. “For many of us, singing choruses like ‘For Unto us a Child is Born’ or ‘Hallelujah’ feels like going home each holiday. Certainly our collection of carols feels that way, and we hope our audience will share in that.”

The upcoming holiday concert featuring Messiah, is just one of many performances open to the public presented by Tarleton’s Department of Fine Arts. For more information about future concerts and events at the Fine Arts Center, visit www.tarleton.edu/finearts.
