STEPHENVILLE – Ridell Camidge and Romond Jenkins were named the best players in the Lone Star Conference for their efforts on the court last week as the Texan duo led No. 15 Tarleton to three wins, including a thriller over No. 12 Western Washington Monday night.

This is the second time this season that the duo has earned the offensive and defensive awards in the same week. It is also the second career award for each player.

Camidge averaged 20.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists while shooting 46 percent from the floor, 43 percent (12-28) on 3-pointers, and made all four free-throw attempts – including the game-winning free throw with four seconds left to complete an old-fashioned 3-point play to knock off No. 12 Western Washington in Monday night’s thriller.

Camidge got warmed up with 17 points, five rebounds and a career-high six assists in a 52-point win over Southwestern Adventist on Wednesday. The Texans traveled to Las Vegas and opened with Simon Fraser, where he scored 16 points, dished out three assists and had a career-high three steals in a 25-point win.

The junior from Wilmington, North Carolina saved the best for last in an upset win over No. 12 Western Washington. He poured in a career-high 27 points and scored the final six points – including the game-winning, and-1 layup with four seconds left – to lift the Texans to the 84-83 victory. Camidge connected on a career-high six 3-pointers as he shot 60 percent from behind the arc in the win.

Meanwhile, Jenkins was dominant on the defensive end for the Texans.

The senior from Midwest City, Oklahoma averaged a double-double over the week with 18.7 points and 14.7 rebounds. He also had a team-best eight steals and five blocks on the week.

Jenkins shot 75 percent from the floor and grabbed 44 rebounds (23 defensive, 21 offensive), which was 25 more than any other Texan. The senior helped hold opponents to 66 points on 44 percent shooting. No team outrebounded Tarleton in the three games, as Jenkins helped the Texans have a plus-47 rebound margin overall and plus-16 rebounds per game.

He had a career night against Southwestern Adventist by posting 24 points (11-13 shooting), grabbing 17 rebounds and coming up with six steals – all career highs – in the 52-point win. In a 25-point win over Simon Fraser, Jenkins had game highs with 18 points and 14 rebounds. He controlled the paint in upsetting No. 12 Western Washington, pulling down 13 rebounds (7 offensive boards) and scoring 14 points. Jenkins was the only player with more than eight rebounds in the game and also had two steals for the Texans.

Tarleton improved to 7-0 on the season when Jenkins records a double-double.

Camidge, Jenkins, and the Texans will return to action on New Year’s Eve with a 4 p.m. showdown against Ouachita Baptist in Wisdom Gym.
